General note „Du bist Kuenstler, ich bin Denker“, sagt Narziss in einem Gespraech mit Goldmund. „Du schlaefst an der Brust der Mutter, ich wache in der Wueste. Mir scheint die Sonne, dir scheinen Mond und Sterne. Deine Traeume sind von Maedchen, meine von Knaben.“ Der Dichter Hermann Hesse schuf in diesem Werk das Gleichnis der ewigen menschlichen Polaritaet von Erfahrung und Erkenntnis, von Tat und Vergeistigung. Goldmund erfaehrt Geschlecht, Liebe, Hass, Rohheit und Wollust. Er wird schuldig und geht erst am Ende seines Lebens in jene Klarheit der Gnade ein, die das Leben des Narziss von Anbeginn an bestimmte. Wie verschieden aber beide auch sind – der Dichter zeigt sie uns bruederlich auf einander bezogen.
