Der Ausbruch des Krieges erschwert ihre Beziehung zusätzlich. 1941 bietet sich Wilkie die Chance ihres Lebens: Durch einen Zufall wird eines ihrer Lieder bei Radio Belgrad gespielt – jenem Sender, der Nachrichten an deutsche Soldaten in ganz Europa übermittelt. In der Folge erlangt sie in ganz Deutschland Berühmtheit – ein unaufhaltsamer Aufstieg. Dank ihres Einflusses gelingt es ihr, Robert vor der Gestapo zu retten und ihm so die Flucht in die Schweiz zu ermöglichen.
