Summary, etc. Erster Weltkrieg .Der junge englische Leutnant Raleigh wird in die Kompanie des desillusionierten Hauptmanns Stanhope versetzt. Syanhope ist heimlich mit Raleighs Schweste verlobt und versucht daher ,das Bild des vorbildichen Offiziers zu wahren. Ein Vorstoβ gegen die deutschen Linien ,an dem auch raleigh teilnimmt ,wird ein bluiges Fiasko. Raleigh kennt nun die Schrecken des Krieges ,die auch Stanhope zermübt haben .Beim folgenden Angriff der Deutschen wird der englische Stützpunkt zerstört.
