Summary, etc. Johann Sebastian Bach ,who died 250 years ago,is one of the greatest composers who ever lived,and with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven one of the most important composers of the German-speaking cultural area.He was born into a big family of musicians in Thuringia and handed on his musical gifts to his many children - four of his sons became major composers themselves. After working as an organist in Arnstadt ,Muehlhausen and Weimar and as Court Kapellmeister in Koethen Johann Sebastian was appointed Kantor of the Thomas Choir and Director of musi in Leipzig .His work is in the Middle German Baroque tradition ,but it points far beyond the borders of his own country and epoch.Today it is performed in churches and concert halls all over the world.
